LOKK - The song of the Valkyries.
Lokk is the viking word meaning “The singing of messages and signals”
The sound has been used as a way of making the human voice heard over long distances.
The ‘lokk’ is performed in a high pitched voice, as this carries better.
Animals were called and people could communicate with each other though far apart.
Many varieties have sudden shifts from high to low notes. This form of singing is found in large parts of the world and is thought to be one of the earliest forms of music.

Vanesska is a 13 year old girl who just was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome and is trying to come to terms with her new reality.
Docu-fiction shot on 16 mm and super 16mm film.

The soundscape is from real sound recording of the biggest glacier in Europe. Vatnajökull in Iceland recorded by the great sound artist Chris Watson. Even though it’s impactful and dramatic the mystery of the sound, allows the images shine on the screen.
